Welcome
Dittisham Sailing Club is a small but vibrant sailing club on the River Dart in South Devon, between Totnes and Dartmouth. Our sailing area is one of the most beautiful estuaries in the country. The river is open at the village, allowing legs of up to 1 mile long. Tidal streams, counter currents and tricky wind shifts due to the local topography make for interesting sailing conditions.
Our facilities consist of a dinghy park, a boat house with club room, storage for spars, changing and toilet facilities, Upstairs is a kitchen and dining lounge with a balcony offering a stunning view across Flat Owers towards Greenway and Galmpton. We have three rescue boats. Car parking is available nearby in the Ham car park.
The Sailing Committee organise a busy racing programme. Racing is for any class with a Portsmouth Number and takes place on most Sundays and midweek during the summer months. Classes that do well are those of moderate performance such as Solos, Lasers, Enterprises and Devon Yawls.
The Cruising Section of the club caters for everyone who can get afloat. There are events in the river, with barbecues or meals in local pubs. These are suitable for all sorts of boats from canoes upwards. There are also events out of the river to local ports (Torquay, Brixham, Salcombe).
Training is RYA affiliated. Courses are available in Power Boat, Rescue Boat, VHF, and Dinghy. There is a busy Junior Sailing Programme.
Ditsum Belles provides lady members with the opportunity to become competent in handling and helming a sailing dinghy. During the year there are also occasional evening BBQ’s and walks to keep in touch
Social events include barbecues and various annual events such as the Prizegiving Dinner. With the completion of the enlarged clubhouse it is planned to have regular social evenings midweek
We run open meetings for Lasers, Solos and Toppers. The Dittisham Regatta is on the first Saturday in August, and Dittisham Sailing Club is the venue for the senior dinghy events in the Port of Dartmouth Royal Regatta in late August. DRYSA ( Dart River Youth Sailing Association ) also usually run their week long regatta for children aged 9 – 16 at Dittisham Sailing Club.
